Nano Update!

I have been writing away at my novel. Unfortunately, it hasn't been going as fast as I'd hoped it would. Since I'm writing in a notebook, I am estimating that my wordcount is around 10,000 although I don't really know for sure! Hopefully I get lots of time to write this weekend so that it progresses quickly!

NaNoWriMo 2009

November has been declared National Novel Writing Month! So as a challenge to all writers, young and old, somebody came up with the idea to write a novel in one month! Something must have gone wrong with my brain, because I decided to do it. Here's the goal:

1. I have from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30
2. I am going to write 50,000 words or roughly 175 pages (typed and double spaced)
3. I cannot let my inner editor get a hold of me...I must simply write

I currently have around 2100 words, and now I should get back to it. Happy Writing!!

My Apologies

Dear Followers,

I am quite sorry! My poor blog has fallen to the wayside. Life outside the virtual world is much more busy than it seems it should be. Oh well! Hopefully I will be able to write something for you in the near future. I shall try not to forget! :D

Recipe Box # 2 : Summer Parfait

This is a quick easy dessert that I whipped up one night with some leftover fruit. (Sorry, I don't have a picture.)

Ingredients:
a 9" round yellow cake
1 box of instant vanilla pudding mix (prepared)
fruit (strawberries, blueberries, cherries, rasberries, peaches)

1. Crumble about 1/2 of the cake into the bottom of a torte dish or a bowl.
2. Spread 1/2 of the pudding on top.
3. Layer fruit on top of the pudding.
4. Continue with one more layer of each.

Tada! You have a dessert. That was easy! :)

Recipe Box #1: Strawberry Scones

1 cup hulled & finely diced fresh strawberries
2 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons cold butter
1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  1. Heat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder & salt in a large bowl. Cut in the butter with a pastry blender until the crumbs are about the size of peas. Add the strawberries and toss them gently until they are coated in flour.
  3. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Add the milk & vanilla and gently stir the dough until all the flour is moistened. DO NOT OVERSTIR. Let the dough sit for 1 minute.
  4. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet. This recipe makes exactly 8 scones. Sprinkle the tops of the scones with a little bit of sugar. Bake for 18 minutes.

I make this recipe for breakfast when we have strawberries fresh from the garden. They are delicious, especially when warm. My family never leaves any left overs! Enjoy one with a cup of coffee. :)

A Book Review...

Last evening, after several months, I finally finished reading Les Miserables, by Victor Hugo. Be warned: it is 1222 pages long...and not a very easy book to read. But, after all that, I am very glad to have read it. It was well worth it.

The book opens describing the habits of a bishop, who one day shelters a convict in his home and teaches him a little bit about humanity and God's love. The rest of this book follows the life, adventures and struggles of this convict, named Jean Valjean. He becomes a marvelously complex character who excites pity in the reader.

Les Miserables (The Miserable)
Author: Victor Hugo
Setting: Post-revolutionary France
Main Characters: Jean Valjean, Javert, Cosette, and Marius

It's Been a Little While...

I have already started out as a bad blogger! I haven't updated in several weeks, have I? I think that I may start posting a series of recipes that I have tried. I like to cook! :)

But besides that, I am going to post interesting quotes, book reviews and other such things. How does that sound?

Falling

Written by Your's truely

My heart was
Longing for love,
And then I found you.
Something...
Who knows what...
Happened to me.
And I'm...

Falling,
Falling,
Falling,
Floating,
Drifting,
Falling,
Slowly,
Softly,
Falling...
Falling for you.

I never thought that
This could happen,
But yet I hoped it would.
Never guessed that I'd be...

Falling,
Falling,
Falling,
Floating,
Drifting,
Falling,
Slowly,
Softly,
Falling...
Falling for you.

And it's better than
I dreamed of.
It's beautiful! Wonderful!
Because I'm....

Falling,
Falling,
Falling,
Floating,
Drifting,
Falling,
Slowly,
Softly,
Falling...
Falling for you.

A Song...

Love is hard,
Why does everybody make it seem easy?
Cause when you know it for real,
You find out that it isn’t easy at all…

It’s so hard
When You’re not with me
And it’s so hard
To remember You care
It’s so easy
To forget You
And it’s so easy to run away…

When I close my eyes
I can see You,
But when open them again
Everything is so distracting
That I get lost…

It’s so hard
When You’re not with me
And it’s so hard
To remember You care
It’s so easy
To forget You
And it’s so easy to run away…

(Yes, this was written by me.)

The Beginning

Hello, and welcome. This is the beginning of my career as a blogger.

The first thing that I would like to do is to explain my name. Nessima is Elvish for "youthful".
